SELAMİ BAKIR

Selami Bakır was born in 1976 in Adana. He completed his primary and secondary education in Adana, where he also began working as an apprentice in carpentry during his middle and high school years, developing his sense of design early on. Continuing his search for new forms of expression, he turned to sculpture at the age of 28 and was admitted to the Sculpture Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Mersin University in 2004, graduating with honors in 2008. Since 2014, he has been continuing his artistic practice in his studio in Istanbul.

In 2006, he worked as an assistant at the 4th International Hüseyin Gezer Stone and Concrete Sculpture Symposium (Mersin) and participated in the 67th State Painting, Sculpture, and Printmaking Competition Exhibition (Ankara). In 2007, he again took part as an assistant in the 5th International Hüseyin Gezer Sculpture Symposium (Mersin) and participated in several exhibitions, including Art Forum Young Artists Competition (Ankara), Mersin University Fine Arts Exhibition, 75th Year Art Gallery May 1st Exhibition (Adana), and the 68th State Painting, Sculpture, and Printmaking Competition Exhibition (Izmir).

In 2008, he exhibited in the Ankara Bar Association Painting-Sculpture-Printmaking Exhibition, the “Yol” Exhibition at 75th Year Art Gallery (Adana), and the “Ekim Geçidi” Exhibition in Istanbul. He later participated in the Artist TÜYAP 26th Art Fair (2016), the “Dehliz” group exhibition at Ve Saire Art Gallery (2018), and the “Obsession” group exhibition at kargART (2019).

In recent years, he has taken part in Art Contact Istanbul Contemporary Art Fair (2022, 2023), the “Oluşum” group exhibition at Evrim Art Gallery (2023), and in 2024, the “Kapsama Alanı” group exhibition at Gala Gallery and the interdisciplinary group exhibition at Keras Art Project (Istanbul).

The artist continues to live and work in Istanbul.
