Artist Statement

These works, in which human and animal imagery intertwine, reinterpret phenomena such as power relations, systems of belief, moral conventions, and social degeneration through a grotesque visual language. Scenes that initially appear festive, vibrant, and inviting gradually reveal the contradictions, suppressed impulses, and normalized forms of corruption concealed beneath the visible surface.

The theoretical framework of the works is grounded in Mikhail Bakhtin’s concepts of the carnival and the grotesque. For Bakhtin, the carnival is a temporary space of liberation where social hierarchies are suspended, roles are inverted, and different social strata can encounter one another on equal terms. In this context, the carnival is understood not merely as a historical form of festivity, but also as a critical model through which contemporary mechanisms of power, social contradictions, and invisible forms of oppression can be examined.

The hybrid figures that inhabit these works bring together human and animal, the tragic and the comic, life and death, power and resistance within a single body. Here, the grotesque is not simply a formal aesthetic choice; it functions as a critical tool that questions notions of normality, order, and authority.

The resulting visual world suggests that reality does not possess a single face. Every order contains its own opposite, every truth its own parody, and every authority its own fragility. In this sense, the works do not position the viewer merely as an observer; rather, they invite them to become part of a carnivalesque encounter, encouraging a reconsideration of established perceptions of reality.
