TESTIMONY

October 31 - November 13, 2025

My artistic practice is less about aesthetics than it is about taking a position. It is figurative, direct, and political; it seeks not to narrate but to reveal, not to symbolize but to point. Rather than pursuing abstraction, my aim is to bear witness to reality. The linear language I employ draws upon an ancient visual memory that extends from prehistoric cave walls to the public surfaces of Ancient Rome. Through the stark contrast of black and white, I seek to reinterpret this visual language within a contemporary context. My restrained formal and technical approach deliberately distances itself from the spectacle of dominant elite aesthetics. More than personal nuances, my work gives voice to a collective memory. For this reason, my works are not merely objects of collection, but also instruments of testimony and resistance.

Alper Yahya

Conceived around the line as both an ethical and intellectual position, this exhibition approaches drawing not as a purely aesthetic form but as a historical site of witnessing. Rather than pursuing formal concerns, it engages with fundamental questions of existence, memory, and responsibility.

In "Testimony", the activation of collective memory becomes a means of reaffirming art's social function and its capacity to serve humanity. The exhibition proposes a critical reflection on the role of artistic practice as an act of witnessing—one that resists forgetting while confronting the realities of the present.
